Benefits to the Communities that are Impacted by the Project: Comprehensive Ecotourism Farm. Organizational and Productive Strengthening of the Peasant Economy in the Provinces of Magdalena Centro, Alto Magdalena and Tequendama Cundinamarqués

BACKGROUND AND DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM OR NEED

The Magdalena Centro, Alto Magdalena, and Tequendama Cundinamarqués Provinces are made up of the Municipalities of: Beltrán, Bituima, Chaguani, Guayabal de Siquima, Pulí, Quipile, Viani, San Juan de Rioseco, Nariño, Guataquí and Girardot; they rest on the western side of the eastern cordillera of the Colombian Andes on the banks of the Magdalena River, between 90 and 162 kilometers from Bogotá. They limit to the north with the Municipalities of Guaduas (Cundinamarca) and Honda (Tolima), to the west with the natural limit of the Magdalena River, which separates them from the Department of Tolima; to the east with the municipalities of Jerusalem and Guataquí.

The Province has an approximate area of 1400 km2, of which 600 km2 are in a warm climate zone and 800 km2 in medium and cold thermal floors; the temperature ranges between 18 oC to 35 oC, its average annual precipitation is 800 and 1045 mm per year, its heights between 260 and 1600 meters above sea level.

The predominant economy is the agriculture of pancoger: corn, cattle, banana, yucca, fruit trees, coffee, cocoa and panela; with rudimentary technologies, small plots affected by inadequate soil management and water scarcity.

The conditions of poverty that is reflected in the peasant population; It comes from the impoverishment of the soils, due to inadequate agricultural practices, the scarcity of water, worsened by climate change, the problems of land tenure, the lack of incentives for production, the difficult access to credit, the bad Road conditions, untimely technical assistance and a difficult period of violence experienced by the country, have caused a stagnation in the rural sector of the Province.

In addition to this, it is evident that 95% of the families require a housing improvement, since a previous visual inspection shows that they do not comply with the NSR10 standard for earthquake resistance; and they don't have septic tanks.

The present project orients its object towards the support of 700 Rural Families of the 8 Municipalities of the Province; delimiting their actions to the sidewalks of the same.

JUSTIFICATION

80% of the farmers in the Magdalena Centro Cundinamarqués province are from a peasant economy. Its agricultural production is low in comparison with the other Provinces of the Department; Therefore, it is necessary to establish comprehensive farms, accompanied by training and technical assistance in clean production, social and environmental awareness and entrepreneurship.

Approximately 95% of the properties of the beneficiary families have precarious housing, with a sanitary deficit; They do not meet the NSR 10 standard for earthquake resistance. Therefore, it is necessary to build rural houses for the 700 rural families.

The Province shows a deficit of drinking water, since the hydraulic distribution networks are insufficient; liquid storage and distribution systems do not respond to the effects of climate change. To meet this need, rainwater supply and storage is required. One solution is the construction of a model for the collection, purification and storage of rainwater in tanks, for the water supply for each house; where families take advantage of the water resource of rainwater as amortization of the shortage for domestic and agricultural use.

In recent years, Colombian society, including the rural population, has been losing a series of values, which were taught and practiced in the past; such as: responsibility, honesty, loyalty, honest work, which has led to mental poverty, and this to physical poverty; showing as consequences: division of homes and families, organizational problems in the communities, apathy due to the development of new productive technological ideas, and government programs.

For this reason, it is important to promote psychosocial support that helps families to promote these good practices that reorganize the aforementioned structures that have been forgotten due to the lack of professional support. In addition to this, it helps the work carried out to be effective and all the tasks carried out are given successfully. The same happens with conservation, rational and participatory use of water resources.
